Introduction:
Weather affects nearly everyone and nearly every day. Weather forecasts are issued to save lives, to reduce property damage, to reduce crop damage and to let the general public know what to expect. Weather Forecasting is the most important service of RMC Lahore. The RMC Lahore provides weather, climate forecasts and warnings for Punjab and Kashmir, it for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. It is issued twice a day (Morning & evening forecast) for Punjab & Kashmir regions. The responsibility of issuing regional forecast for Punjab and Kashmir was given to Meteorological Office (MO), Lahore (under RMC Lahore) in 2015.Prior, the issuance of Regional & local forecast was the responsibility of flood forecasting division (FFD)Lahore. Different kinds of forecasting tools such as Satellite & Radar images, various NWP models, Meteorological charts (surface, pilot, temps, change (pressure & temperature) charts etc) and current data etc are used for daily weather inference and forecast. The current and forecasted meteorological information are used for different activities in the region as agriculture, tourism, mountaineering, irrigation, aviation, industries, construction, oil exploration and research purpose etc. These information can also be used to mitigate the weather related hazards like dust storm, heavy rains, flash flooding. Fog, thunderstorm, droughts and heat waves etc.
